Pollster

John began his career in market research in 1984, as a coder at Ruston/Tomany & Associates. He became a project director there, left for Gallup Canada in 1989, where he became a consultant, then senior consultant, then left for Research Dimensions in 1992 where he became Vice President. John resigned from Research Dimensions in 2000 to form his own company, Corbett Communications.

As a consultant, John directed the Forum Poll from 2010 to 2017, then established and ran the Campaign Research Poll as Vice President from January 2017 to October of that year. Since then, John has worked for Mainstreet Research as Vice President.

Actor

John had an active film and TV acting career in the 1980s. While he abandoned his dramatic pursuits for three decades, John got back into the business in 2008, seasoned, experienced and ideal for mature roles.

Sailor

John learned to sail at Lakefield College School in the 60s, and has been a passionate sailor ever since. In 2004, he bought a 22 foot mini-cruiser called a CS 22, and joined the National Yacht Club in Toronto . After 8 years of “rubber band” sailing (out and back), John sold the CS 22 and purchased a 33 foot ketch-rigged motorsailer called Passat, built by Nauticat in Finland in 1986.

After eight years of sailing, a switch to power was called for. Passat was followed in 2020 by Ragtime, an Express Scout 30 classic motor yacht, modelled on a popular design from the Roaring Twenties. Ragtime underwent a hull-up rebuild after purchase, gaining a new motor, electronics, electrics and safety gear.
