There is a place
Where I spent a lot of time
It’s the Hating Place
While going there’s not a crime

It’s a place where people vent
Their feelings and their hurts
Where they rip on others
And where no one alerts

The authorities to death threats
Or hate made public and open
People abandon their filters
And act like society’s broken

It’s not far, this place
Only as far as my desk
But the effort required to not go there
Explains why it’s such a risk

To open yourself to excess
To unmediated vitriol and ire
To absorb the hate others are sending
We all burn in the same fire

I’ve quit this place now, won’t go back
I’m happy to know less but better
I’ll have to get my news and views now
From the TV or some newsletter

There is a place
Where I spent a lot of time
It was the hating place
But its deceits are no longer mine
