I’m a pollster, I ask questions
I like to know the answers
It doesn’t matter what subject
I’m like a dancer
I’ve got a step for every beat
But the thing I see most clearly
Is that opinions are diverging
And for that we will pay dearly
Everything is now a partisan issue
food, sex, art and sport
You can’t avoid the right-left split
Or the East-West sort
Beer is conservative, wine is liberal
Brown liquor is for the old
More right wingers claim adultery
More lefties sexual assault
We are a polarized society
No one’s right, everyone’s wrong
The arrogance of certainty
Is daunting when it’s so strong
It used to be we argued
Over the colour of margarine
Now everything we argue about
Has a political dimension
Everything is now a partisan issue
food, sex, art and sport
You can’t avoid the right-left split
Or the East-West sort
